How does it work? Fingerprint recognition is a biometric technology. This kind of technology uses unique features of the human body for identification. In this case the feature used is the tip of the finger. Human fingertips have patterns of lines which are unique to each individual. We scan these patterns with a finger (print) scanner. A complicated mathematical algorithm analyzes these patterns. The result is a number which is stored in a database along with a customer ID and first name. Every stored individual can be recognized by comparing the calculated number with the numbers in the database. The biometric information and the name & address information are strictly separated (not stored on the same database on the same machine). This ensures personal privacy as required by privacy laws and Privacy Enhancement Technology (PET).
